GUIDED WALK AROUND DICKENS’ ROCHESTER
December 8 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Let us bring the World of Charles Dickens to life on our highly entertaining guided walk during the DICKENS CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL! DISCOVER CHARLES DICKENS ROCHESTER GUIDED WALKING TOUR This is our most popular walking tour because, if there is one literary name associated with Rochester, it is unquestionably…. CHARLES DICKENS. The town is littered with locations and names which Dickens drew on for inspiration throughout his career, featuring many of them in his fifteen novels, five novellas and hundreds of short stories, most notably ‘The Pickwick Papers’, ‘Great Expectations’, ‘The Seven Poor Travellers’ and his last – and unfinished – work, ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’. Join us for an entertaining tour around all the key sites, and learn more about the man himself and how he went from being just one of thousands of aspiring British writers in 1833, to become THE HIGHEST EARNING AUTHOR IN THE WORLD at the time of his death in 1870. DURATION OF TOUR – Please allow up to 3 hours as the town centre will be busy during the DICKENS CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL. WHAT’S THE COST? That is entirely at YOUR discretion. We feel that NO ONE should be prevented from learning something just because they cannot afford, in the case of Rochester, up to £17 for a ticket to a walk. For some, £1 is a lot of money. So, we leave that decision to YOU. WHERE TO FIND OUR GUIDE – Meet your guide outside the GUILDHALL MUSEUM at the bridges end of the High Street. Our guide will be waiting close to the Victorian green and gold postbox, holding a yellow meeting board showing ‘RHWT TOUR GUIDE’ so you can recognise them. START TIME – Please see the event listing for the start time. Please arrive ten minutes before then as the walk leaves PROMPTLY!
